Appendix F – Chief Engineer’s Transfer Checklist



When transferring in the following States and/or countries ensure that additional regulations are met prior to the transfer:

Master has been informed by the Chief Engineer on the scheduled oil transfer

Records are available indicating that all oil transfer system alarms are tested every 4 months and operating properly

Written records are available that all equipment tests and inspections have been performed as per 33 CFR 156.170

The Vessel PIC of the oil transfer is not scheduled to be in charge for a period longer than 6 hours (MR500.6.2)

Prior to commencement of the oil transfer, the hydraulic valve system for the fuel oil control valves be tested for proper operation

Preloading Plan prepared by Second Officer responsible for stability is reviewed and posted in the ECR and on the bridge

Proper instructions to the Vessel PIC and the transfer team has been provided

Ensure that the crew member in the bunker break is well rested, understands English, is supplied with an appropriate two-way radio, air horn, and understands the emergency shut-down procedure

Overflow tanks are empty

The Point of Transfer watch is in the bunker break during the transfer.
